Week 1 - No more Muslims in entertainment outlets with liquor licenses?

The news that dominated the local new would be the issue of Muslims working in outlets selling liquor. Recently, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) declared that the y will be enforcing the condition on outlets that have liquor license. They stated to ban Muslims from working at entertainment outlets with liquor licenses.

This issue went over for nearly a week and many people stood up to give opinions and advices. One of the critique stated by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen: “It is an important issue as it touches on human rights and a person’s livelihood." Then on the 18th January, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced that the controversial ban announced by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council last week was merely a guideline. He said there was no by-law in the state that prevented Muslims from working in outlets serving alcohol and the ban announced by MPSJ last week was just a reminder to Muslims on the inappropriateness of working in entertainment outlets serving alcohol. Two days after, the Selangor Government stated to offer RM10mil to assist Muslims quitting jobs deemed non-halal jobs so they can choose an alternative career.

In my opinion, from a non-muslim point of view, maybe there are some Syariah Laws that only Islams can truly understand and need to obey. Although for now this is still not yet an official law, but i think that if the number keep increasing, it might affect the final result. As a conclusion, i think that the Selangor Government had made a good start in trying to solve this problem with the RM10mil so that Muslims will choose for a better path.
